The Gulf Savannah region offers the quintessential Outback experience. Extending from the Great Dividing Range in the east to beyond the Northern Territory border in the west. This expansive part of Australia covers an area of 186,000 square km. The Gulf Savannah is a true frontier destination and 4WD-ing paradise.

With Tracks 4×4 you will start this trip in Cairns, taking a leisurely drive up through the magnificent Atherton Tablelands for our first night camping at the Undara Lava Tubes. Here we take a tour of the tubes. From Undara, we head along the iconic Savannah Way to Cobbold Gorge for a tour and swim. We also visit Karumba via Normanton, Leichhardt Falls, Adels Grove, and Lawn Hill National Park. We will experience life on a true working cattle station, camping by the river and hopefully, catch yourself a Barra for dinner.

One of the jewels of this trip is 4 nights at Lorella Springs, where we will move around the property to swim and explore the gulf country. After our wonderful time at Lorella, we head for the Lost City to see amazing sandstone structures that resemble a modern cityscape. From here, we enjoy a last night together at Mataranka, enjoying the soothing waters after our Gulf adventure.

Our Gulf Country Savannah tour takes in a number of spectacular natural sights, including meandering river systems, tidal creeks, hot springs, lava tubes, and beautiful gorges full of wildlife. The landscape across the Gulf Savannah is incomparable, especially when you have the ability to get up close and personal in a 4WD. From sweeping grass plains to flowing rivers and shining sea, the changing landscapes of the Savannah are always impressive
